SKS ceremonial sling. Never was issued with the regular grunts. AK ones were different. They had two leather straps at both ends used to fasten to the rifle.

I have owned semi-auto (commercial) AK's made in Europe that both came with leather slings similar to yours. Obviously, these were made well after the 1955 date though.

Soviet moison Nagant slings have leather straps/tabs on both ends to fit thru the rifle's stock "slits". They can be used/attached to AK's easily enough, but were not originally designed for the AK.

Chinese AK slings are mostly web material, but instead of the front metal clip (as on your sling), they have a leather strap/tab to attach the sling to the rifles front, similar to the Moison Nagant arrangement.

Your sling could easily be found issued on either SKS or AK. Most Soviet/Warsaw pact slings were of webbing-like material, but leather was still in use during that era.

Hope this assists you!

Well I just got a 1954 cavas sling on my new sks :) so my quest is on to find the oldest sling :p

I ve beening reading the AK47 was not issued to all troops til the mid 50s so I can say both my leather 1955 and cavas 1954 could have likely been for the SKS.
