That is the way it is today but the original concept and training procedures for the Spetznaz were developed by a Navy Infantry officer in WW2. A lot of his methods are still used today. And yes I know that Spetznaz is the Russian equivalent of Seals, SAS, Commandos etc.

Sorry bud but you wrong , i just get more details which is clearly state "spetznaz" was founded by MGB > KGB > FSB now , navy infantry gives start to VDV (special air forces ) equivalent of Navy Seals , but not "spetsnaz" , while ago i found another things , "spetsnaz" forces used special Kalashnikov with titanium parts like action frame , which gives to rifle almost zero recoil .

No joke. Heard stories of Ivans willing to trade armfulls of non working wrist watches for one that ran. Got to wind them once in a while to make them work, you know. :) These people were literally still in the stone ages on some levels.

Oh yes , russians are stupid as a cork , but somehow they defeated Napoleon's army in 1812 , and very well organized Hitler's army in 1945 .

Just a single fact: the Moscow watch factory produced 2.7 million watches between 1930 and 1940.

So, people did know how watches worked.

Well, people who fought in war were mostly not from Moscow, you know? And total population of USSR was more than 150 million by the beginning of the WWII.

Funny enough, but brother of my grandfather traded bunch of German watches to Americans for a brand new Jeep in 1945. He absolutely loved that car and worked on it with my uncle, who later became a car mechanic. Now, that's now just some story from unknown, I heard it personally and did see the pictures of the jeep.

What a lovely story. Have you ever thought where those watches came from and how it's called in criminal law?

I can bet 1,000 it was other way around...

I'm afraid you lost your 1,000 sir.

For anyone interested, I located the source I had read many years ago. It was in a local library in an encyclopedia set called "The Illustrated Encyclopedia of 20th Century Weapons and Warfare". This was in the section for Arkhangelsk:

"As a bizarre sidelight on the Russian character, when she was returned in February 1949 it was found that every gun on board was still loaded, from 15-in down to 2-pdr pom-poms. In addition the mess decks were covered in human excrement."

From the same source:
I served with an old 3 badged Royal Naval Able Seaman who was one of the working party when she was returned to the UK.
He said she was in such a state and so flithy inside that at the end of every working day the overalls they had been wearing were taken off them (and destroyed) and they were handed a new pair ready for the following day.

From Wikipedia:
The Soviet Navy had initially sought to avoid sending the ship back, claiming that she was not sufficiently seaworthy to make the voyage back to Britain. After an inspection by a Royal Navy officer, however, the Soviet Navy agreed to return the vessel in January 1949.

I guess they were too upset about sending the ship back to England so they decided to return it in the serviceable state described above.

This poop boat is creating quite a bit of excitement on the red rifle section. It is bothering me. I thought it was BS but actually it's HS.

I stand corrected.

With regards to Spetsnaz, it is simply Russian for "Special Purpose" unit, it technically could be anything. A very well known Spetsnaz is Spetsnaz GRU, or Special Purpose units of the Russian Main Intelligence Directorate, there are also numerous Spetsnaz units within ordinary police, those are just SWAT teams, etc.

Mostly cause they were willing to die like flies doing it. :( Human life was cheap in Soviet service. Napoleon ? Defeated himself with the help of the Russian winter.
