My local CT has sks rifles on for $169. and has them 2 groups , Russian and Soviet , is there a difference in rifles or is it just a way of telling when the rifles were made? And which one is the better quality?

What's the difference between Canadians and Canucks?
One is a hockey team in B.C., the other in Quebec?

As for theOPs question, they are probable the same thing being called two different things. Russian sks (and others that aren't Chinese) are Soviet sks. Ukranian, Romanian, Yugoslavian sks are all Soviet sks too, but due to rarity the chances of them being the same price as a Russian is pretty slim.

My bet would be they are all Russian at $169.

Modern Russian refurbished rifle will have small ГИС (Government test facility) stamp on it's receiver and modern writings on the barrel, under gas tube saying Made in Russia, 7.62x39 blah blah.

Don't think any were made after the collapse of the Soviet Union.

Other source said it still soviet made carabine but deeply refurbished , 100% dissasembling , paint removal . But the main thing its not in production , sorry for mistake in upper post .

still in production

Those are not new production weapons. Izhevsk factory "makes" hunting carbines out of milsurp. They take milsurp rifles, refurbish them, test fire, remark and sell.
Lots of models are re-branded as hunting weapons in order to make it legal to sell/buy/possess in Russia. Molot got PPSh and even Maxim MG certified as a "hunting carbine" so people can buy those things legally :)

Here's hunting carbine Maxim which can be legally purchased over there since it was certified as a hunting weapon :) http://gou.tiu.ru/p36404310-karabin-ohotnichij-maksim.html

It's just a loophole manufacturers use, similar to what we have when it comes to using 10 rd "pistol mags" in long guns. Everything is being re-branded as hunting carbine. Mosin, SVT, AKM, SKS, K98 etc. All Russian modern refurbs will have OK or ОП markings. Those symbols mean that weapon was certified as hunting carbine and can be legally purchased in Russia.

простите , но это пиСец :))))

Russian/Soviet = potato/po-ta-toe

SSDD

Big difference if you are collector. All those modern markings diminish the value of a firearm. SKS rifles are not as old as WW2 firearm but still. Look at RC K98 rifles. $1600-$3000 for all matching VS $600 for pinned RC rifle. I use my modern refurb SKS for shooting so I don't care about the markings but when it comes to collection, I searched for a non refurb, all original piece.

Soviet ruifles come with their own party membership card, an application to the dippers and a picture of Mulcair.

Apparently the liberals have lots of little red books left over from a few elections back.
Not all in mandarin either.

Its curious that they would have them separate as they are all Russian. I'm assuming the store got them from different sources, the earlier stock was probably Ukrainian sourced and the later ones from Russia(Molot). Some of the CT store department managers are outstanding, but most don't know anything about firearms other than what the supplier tells them.

Thanks , for all the replies , I thought they were all Russian sks and the separation is based on what distributor the 2 batches came from . I`ll see if they will look at them closer
