I know these things aren't legal up north, but I figured you guys might get a kick out of this. I was invited out to shoot a real PKM machinegun and thought I would share the video with you guys.

The semi-auto versions down there run in the $6k+ range. The full-auto versions are really only available as dealer samples, meaning you don't really "own" them. If you give up your dealers license you must sell or surrender the gun. The gun in the video is worth about $2500.

I think what David was saying is that some units have used the PKM for special missions. It's not a general issue weapon to US forces.

I wish I never saw that video :(.
I really want one now !!!!!!!
Think how bad the hankering for one is after being able to shoot it! I kept telling him I hope he left it sidearm in the car because when he turned his back I was going to run like mad for the tree line to try and get away with it. :)

Thanks for posting the vid. I really enjoy watching them.

I shot PKM at Knob Creek and loved it...

I've been to the creek several times and never have walked to the line to fired a rented weapon... it's always so stinking busy! But I'll have to do it next time. As I mention in the video, this was the first time I've fired the PKM and now I can't stop thinking about it. So much so I'm trying to figure out what I can sell to buy a semi-auto one.

Yes, it is used by special units. I have a RPK. It is NOT a long barrel AK47. It is an AK47 with a slightly longer barrel and Bipod. It usualy is used with drum mags.

Regards,
Henry;)

Which special units use the PKM?

The RPK is more commonly used with 30 or 40 round magazines due to reliability issues with drums, whether perceived or real.

edit: I actually DO remember a US unit using a PKM in the turret of a HMMV....they were a mail delivery unit. 3 humvees - 1 SAW, 1 M60, 1 PKM and a USPS trailer....Guess they got the short end of the budget stick.
