Hi,

Can anyone help me with partial advice please? I have been looking at the new Russian shotguns that are now available in Canada. One in particular sparks my interest, the RMO-93-2 "Rys-U. The pictures do not give it justice. It is one very nice looking piece. I have visited the dealer a couple of times just to hold it. Unfortunately, they do not have a firing range so that I can try it out. Sadly, I have not been able to find any information about them except from the dealer and the manufacturer.

Can anyone direct me to any other place where I can get some info about them?

Thanks

JW

It is an interesting design, with the tubular mag. on top and the barrel underneath. Since no one here knows anything about them, I suggest going to the Double Gun BBS at www.gunshop.com and asking there. There is a Russian who posts there who may have an opinion for you.

That's a really interesting design.. I wouldn't mind holding one or trying someone else's out.. but yeah, dropping $950 USD on one without knowing it's right for you.. eh... maybe not.

They are on special for $ 600 Canadian.

I bought one of them when they first came out... I have yet to make it jam :D This thing will cycle anything. You can turn it upside down, shake it like crazy while slowly cycling the slide, it will not jam. If there is such thing as "control feed" in a shotgun, this is it. A while back a friend was bragging that is 45 would cycle empty brass... this is nice, but his shotgun did not cycle empty hulls, this one did!

The loading takes a little getting used to... so if you are planning on loading it under stress, practice-practice-practice! But I am not to concern about that... I think I could take care of most "situation" with 8rds of slugs/buck shots...

I started to build a small page on them:
http://www.geocities.com/michelt_13/RYS_RMO.html

My logic to "justify" the purchase was that I could either get a Remington 870, change the stock, add a magazine extension and some sight... this would give me a nice shotgun, like thousands of other shooter. Or for the same $, get a RYS and be different. I am glad the gun turned out to be reliable ;)

Here's a size comparaison between the RYS with a 21" barrel and a High Standard with a 18" barrel.

Safe shooting,

Ah, that's too far a trek from where I am. If I ever see them at a store or a show in/around the GTA, I'll have to ask to handle one.

I am not trying to be a knob here, but the picture definately shows the mag on the bottom of the barrel. I have not actually seen one, but I am pretty sure of the picture I am looking at right now, that you posted.

Ya man, we have a pair at home and the mag is on top.
In the picture what you see is that the barrel is extended in order to take chokes.

Deano, it sure looks like it, but that IS the barrel on the bottom. Go to the web site on the first post of this thread, and see for yourself!

Deano,

Beleive me, I own one... the barrel is on the bottom and the magazine is on top.

To load it, you open the top-cover...

When you push the barrel forward, a fresh round is been fed to the breach face. In this picture, the gun is upside down, you can see the trigger guard on the right hand side of the picture.

FYI, the black line on the hull is for me not to get confused between birdshots and reloaded slugs...

jwillmoore,

Mine is still in pretty good shape, so I haven't tought about recycling it yet ;)

When you are down at the range, if somebody doupts that your russian shotgun will be reliable... try this; pick up a few empty hulls on the ground, load them in the magazine, as you are shacking the s#!t out of the shotgun, cycle the action very slowly untill every empty hulls have been loaded and ejected... If you short stroke it, you will simply have an empty hull in the chamber, just cycle it again. Repeat as needed with the shotgun upside down or sideways... None of my other shotgun as pass this simple test.

If you ever manage to get it to jam, let me know... I am curious to know what you did to it.

The rear sight is a little pathetic, but it shot at point of aim at 20y... I got a friend (machinist) to make me a picatiny rail to mount on the magazine tube. I since installed one of the AIMPOINT replica... It's a whole lot of fun :D just make sure to really tighten everything down. Otherwise the recoil of the shotgun will cause the sight to slide in the mount.

Also, the tread protector on mine had the habit of comming loose after a few rounds... so I put a bit of nail polish on the treading. That took care of it.

Mike.

*edit*
Just saw that sword in your avatar... who cares for mall ninja when you can be a barbarian :D

Can you shoot slugs? Of course, that's the only thing I shoot :D I tried some buckshots... but it is not as much fun, it spreads out to fast.

Mike.

I thought according to the manufacturer '"Rys-UTs" can handle Magnums with 76mm case.' The ones that Armrus is selling are 'Rys-U'. Or am I misunderstanding the meaning of Magnum shuts.

Do not get me wrong if I can shoot slugs I love it even more

Manufacturer website http://home.tula.net/tularms/indexen.htm

Last year I wrote to the manufacturer in Russia, I wanted to know a little more about that gun... They sent me a nice flyer showing all the models they make.
- Folding stock
- Pistol grip
- Regular stock
- Long/short barrel
and 2 3/4" or 3" shells...

Armrus only got the 2 3/4"...

Michel.
