Russian Simonov SKS 1945 Collection

Just sold it on EE for $250 shipping included :)
Well seriously, this is one of "pre-production" found in Ukraine, deactivated to russian specs and sold to Russia (I suppose before the war). Unfortunately stock was not original to rifle. As most of our SKSs came from Ukraine watch out for them, there was at least one report of 1948 dated cover found in Canada.

Ugh you can't be serious!! That would have been an awesome addition to my crate!! I'll definitely keep my eyes peeled, but chances of finding one will be extremely slim.

SKS tested in 1945 did they look like the 1949 model? Why 4 yrs delay in production with the SVT cancelled in 45. Was the Russian economy that shattered after the war that resources went to rebuilding instead of rearming?

SVT-40 production (along with production of some other small arms) was stopped because by the end of 1944 USSR had excessive amount of small arms and the outcome of the war was evident. They had enough guns even to feel prepared enough for war with "capitalists". With SKSs it was normal R&D process with several major army tests/competition/trials and no rush. All we know about 1945 SKS they were chambered in M43 which by that time had 7.62x41. M43 round was also in developing stage and later was changed into 7.62x39, so 1948 pre-production SKSs were probably chambered in x39 version.
