Russian sks gold bayonet

Some say it is a congealed preservative like cosmoline. Some say it is coating like lacquer or similar varnish. Either way, the goldie is a semi-rare oddity that is a conversation piece. I like mine and will not compromise it by using any solvent that can attack such materials. I use Ed's red (without the acetone part) to clean and it doesn't seem to affect the gold coating.

More notable though, is the common observation that the gold bayo comes in un-refurbed SKSs as mentioned by a few board members here. So the goldie is probably one of the more obvious telltale signs of a non-refurb.
