so i was at my local canadian tire last week and noticed they were selling sks'. im fairly familiar with the gun, and i have owned a couple different ones to this date and i also own a cz 858. as of right now i have a chinese sks which i love and i bought brand new, but i really want to get something of a higher quality, ive heard somewhere that the russian sks is supposed to be better than the chinese, but these refurbs seemed kind of junky i thought, the painted components, and the way they were pinned didnt really tickle my fancy. are the non-refurb russian sks's much better? are they hard to find? and if so whats my next best bet for a "higher" quality sks?

lever arms in vancouver has lots , i dont know where you are but just saying. they have tulas and Izzy's all different years

yugos are really hard to find, and I dont think you'll ever find a new one.

"best sks" is open to interpretation.
Chrome lined is good for cleaning and corrosive ammo but I have heard from some guys, non lined is more accurate, Ive heard the painted bolts are all ####ty and rusted, I have one and it is in really good shape. So lots of info and misinfo out there.
So its really up to you to decide which is best.

im not a big fan of tacticool stocks with flashlights, laser shows and cigarrette lighters on a sks. im a wood kinda guy, and thats my biggest beef with 99.99% of these sks. low quality wood stocks. wheres a good place to get a beautiful wood stock?

Um, the russian laminate ones are pretty nice imho. Bottom two

And if you search the Red rifles forum there was a thread about nice aftermarket wood for SKS.

Weimajack sell's handpicked sks.. I just picked up a 53 tula from him and was very impressed by the quality, not frankenpinned either.. If I want another russian he's the first person I'd contact.

should i just get a new wood stock for my chinese sks? i think that might make more sense or are the russians that much better?

x2 for Weimajack,I've bought from him before and won't hesitate to buy from him again, especially sks's. He knows how to pic 'em and his price point is earthly not like some of the $500-$600 sks's on EE....I think they must be from Pluto,or some other place where the air is thin!:p

I'd love to walk into our CrappyTire and see SKS's for sale, all we have are pellet guns. What part of Canada are you from again?

belleville ontario,
it is relatively new, they only started stocking firearms about a year ago i would say. i was ever surprised to find all the russian sks' and even the norinco m-14 on the shelf! they have a great selection with a bit lower than average prices for the area. they also sell the surplus ammo, isnt that crazy?

Interesting...Weimajack, is that the name of a store? Business? Or person? Dealer? Member of this forum? Sponsor?

Beautiful refurbs at TradeEx, also with laminate stocks. I bought a Russian SKS plain stock and a Mosin Nagant. Both excellent.
