i bought a Russian SKS few weeks back, never had the intention on buying a red rifle but it was there in front of me and it looks neat so I bought it. from what I understand, it is a un-refurb and un-fired. all 6 numbers match. While I was doing some research I read some people saying it is worth a mint if all numbers match.
I think most of these posts are from the US and these and chinese firearms are worth more there. any opinion?? thanks

Matching #s is the norm. They come that way, so, from $150 to 450 tops. And the 450 is usually reserved for a unmolested 49.

Or for an as-issued, non-refurbished 1953 Izhevsk...

However, value is what somebody is willing to pay. I have and will pay a premium for mint condition non-refurbished examples from any year or arsenal. I haven't paid less than $350 for any of my non-refurbs.

It's amazing what you can find out there. I picked up an non-refurb, unissued 55/56 at lever last Dec for $150. They get crates full of them and sometimes it's the luck of the draw.

They are out there if you look around, places like CT won't know the difference between a refurb or a non refurb

$75.00 if you buy ammo as well as the gun

I think that's for a chinese SKS...if I'm wrong please post a link to the sale.

Ruskie rifles are going through renewed interest. Partly because of their pedigree, but also because of affordability. There are some serious variations in the SKS where one could be for more value than another (Gimme a Yugo w/adjustable gas n' grenade launcher!). Best bet is decide what you're looking for, and what you're going to do with it. "Shooters" should be 200 or less, "collectors" are worth what a collector will pay.

Good advice.. what if your neither and just like them :)

That would be the best category for me... I do like these rifles. Everything about them screams "built correctly". They are as dependable as a sunrise, affordable to buy and feed, and an actual pleasure to shoot. No matter why you chose one (if you can stop at just one), it was a good idea.

I have a 53 russion refurb in excellent condition. There is no such thing as an unissued non refurb sks. You can by a non refurbed unissued Chinese but they were built in the 60's. I know you want your sks to be a non refurb but don't buy the hype. In my opinion the red rifles are the best but your not going to convince me it's a non refurb.

Not a good first post, spreading mistruths.

Beat me to it. I own 3 unissued non-refurbs... and while more rare, are out there!

BTW, welcome to the forum!

I have a couple that are non-refurb (no refurb mark) All numbers matching,no electro pencil match and unissued as well. So I hate to say it but I don't agree with you either SKS45. Not a great 1st post, try going to the Greetings and introductions forum first, saying hi, maybe get at least 5-10 posts under your belt before you come on here and start disagreeing with what is known. Just my 2 cents. By the way welcome to the board.......
