Hey guys...I picked up an SKS today and naturally assumed that it was Chinesse. However, the more I looked at it, I noticed a few things...first, it is registered as a Simonov, 2nd, it has a big star on the receiver cover with 1952r under it. It has a blade type bayonet as opposed to spear style. The wood is really dark and has some type of military sling on it (unfortunately, the stock has been cracked, but it was repaired). The main thing that made me think it was different is the barrel - it says "SKS 7.62x39 RUSSIA". All the numbers match except for the mag, as it appears to have been cut down to only hold 5 rounds - it is flush with the stock. I have some pictures if someone could post them for me...the serial # is also quite low - HM****. There are quite a few markings on the gun, and I think it is a screwed in barrel. Anyone have any idea if this is a Russian gun?

Sounds like the Century Arms imports from back in the day. The magazine is most likely a Chinese 5 round mag but the gun is all Russian. Good score!

OK...here are some pictures. After reading for an hour, it appears to be a true Russian gun (except for the mag). As with any SKS, the bolt is a PITA to get apart, but everything seems good. I was reading up on the different firing pins, and it shows that the Chinesse pin is very similar to a type 2 russian pin...is there much difference between the 2 pins? The one in this gun looks more like a Chinesse pin but has some of the Russian characteristics
