Russian SKS45: ID FAQ Collectibles .... update feb 8th, 2011

Some errata for this post.

I have, at this point, handled and examined no less than 7-10 1950 non-refurbished rifles and 'light' refurbished rifles.

By the end of 1950, they had dropped the spring loaded firing pin for the majority of production. If you have a 1950 with late features and a free floating firing pin, it can be an original. You must obviously look for the other signs of originality first.

Excellent Resource, can't believe how much time I spent trying to gather some of this info online, if only I had seen this collection. Thanks for putting it together.

Were do battle worn issued and non-refurbished Soviet SKSs came to Canada from? I saw only two rifles like that in last 10 years and had to snatch one as soon as I saw it (that would be third I saw). Lacking any Arabic numbers so probably not from Israeli captured ones. But been non-refurbished eliminates USSR option.
