Russian SKS45 long thread.

No, the UN import marking regs were put off by the Gov 'til '09, IIRC. The import marked MN's that SIR had came via the US, hence the import markings that were required for entry into the US>

That's it. Thanks for the clarification Stevo.

Well, just for the record... (call me stupid if you want), I placed my order with Frontier Taxidermy a few weeks ago, and I've received impeccable communication from Marlin. I'm keeping my order with him, since I'm a "homme de principe".

Made sense to me Lou! :)

Now we can go in on 54R AND 7.62x39 together!! :D

Thanks guys! just ordered one online. My first and only SKS was a Norinco purchased from SIR about 8 years ago.Shot great but the wood and sights were so crappy I had to sell it for purely asthetic reasons.I am glad to be back in the SKS game with a Russian piece.Great gun and a joy to shoot.

P.s. Man I can't wait to shoot a semi-auto!!! It's been quite a while. (Last time, about 10 years ago with a 12 ga)

I thought you shot my Garand? Wait, I didn't have the en-blocs when we went to the range....You can give her a go next time.

I think I'll stick with the one I ordered through Frontier.

I've dealt with Marlin before and he's been one of the best guys to deal with. I don't mind paying more to support a guy that actually cares about customer service.

Besides, I'm paying the extra for a hand slected rifle. I would rather have 1 nice rusky than 3 random ones anyday.

And some say forums don't impact much. Right. :)

Man, talk about a sizzlin' hot thread!

I am addicted Lou, I cannot stop buying!!!! :D

Thank god it is tax season and I have lots of overtime to pay for this addiction!

P.S.

I just bought a No1MKIII as well.:runaway:

I will stick with Frontier.

SIR's prices are lower, but so it their quality control. Their Mosins vary in condition enough to make me wary of buying anything from them sight unseen.

I bought from SIR, but I agree with you guys who have bought from Frontier. If you get great service and the quality is high, you are not out anything.

the only non-chromed SKS out there that I know of are the Yugos, like my beloved 59/66 ...

My 1950 is not chromed.

Well, being that I can never pass up a bargain, I just ordered one up from SIR.

Since I had such crappy luck with S.I.R in the past in purchasing a SKS, I might just wait for all of you to buy from them and not Frontier, then I will give Marlin a call and buy my 3rd SKS ( Have to try and keep up with Curton) from him :D

So do you guys think there is 2 boats coming from Russia ?
I'd put money on it that there is one importer bringing in this shipment & selling to dealers who are selling to us . Unless you are in the store physically examining the ones on hand . You are going to get what they send you . Kind of like filling your gas tank . Are you going to pay $169.00 to fill it or $230.00

Not to derail this thread ...but as for recent SIR experiences i just ordered 2 rifles a few days apart and i received them w/ about the same spread.. 2nd one received today actually.. this was my first time dealing w/ them....a very good online shopping experience.

.. i talked to sir last week in winnipeg , they told me they have no idea when they where geting them , so i asked the sales rep if he could talk to his boss to find out if he had an idea , they did not , ,, well i am going to be droping buy next week to get 2-3 of them

The rep today told me March...and she was pretty sure about it. She just wasn't sure about how many they would get.

ding ... ding .... ding , mr. C you got it right, there is only one shipment coming in by boat, about several hundred SKS and from there it is split to dealers... so it dont matter what you pay or who you buy it from , you will still get yours from the same shipment .

personally i cant see a dealer going thru every rifle to check the grade especially if its heavily coat with cosmo unless they are putting it on display, they will be too busy sending them out to customers, they only have time to check serial number (thats what marstar did with my M14s , they just cut a slit in the plastic bag to check serial number ) so there is a good chance the $166 SKS may have collector grade among them, lets hope.:dancingbanana:

hey G , funny man , if you got crappy luck from SIR then in this case you will get crappy luck from frontier too, i was told the shipment was also for other dealers.
