Russian SKS45 long thread.

Has any-one received a new member of the family? We have seen so many different configurations, new dealers offering up more stock, dealers with SKS accessories, and access to more ammo. The thread is so long and there have been so many questions and answers about the SKS.

The big question is: When is SIR/Cabellas going to receive and ship their promised stock?

Personally, I have another one on order and am discussing my 1955 TULA with a site in the US. He has requested pictures and info. Apparently there are odd ones out there that are unique.
If you weed though all of the posts here, there are a lot of questions and answers, as well as expert input. Too bad we can not condense it.

I was surfing SKS sites and came across new replacement Firing Pins that are spring loaded. These do not jam despite being beaten.

SKSfiringPins.jpg

NEW SS SKS Firing Pins, Firing Pin with spring for pre-'51 Russians - (center). Firing pin with spring for EVERYTHING else (top).
This new firing pin will eliminate slam-fire and uncontrollable full-auto incidents! And, it will allow the use of “soft primered “American” ammo, or reloads.

yes, sksman.com has them for US$35 .

Once I get mine next week, I will make a Titanium firing pin replacement if it's not factory spring loaded.
Light and strong, will not double with commercial, soft primer.

Actually found on Murraysguns they are the manufacturer.

Here is his write up:

“Original” Russian style, newly manufactured, CNC machined and heat-treated 420 SS firing pin and “Wolff” spring are now available. Drop in fit with no alterations required. Fits early Russian, (with special shorter spring) later Russian, Chinese, Yugoslavian, Albanian, and Romanians. $37.00 includes “First Class” anywhere in the U.S. and Canada. (credit card - $39.00) [Texas residents add 6.25% tax]
"Kit" includes firing pin, spring, extra spring, written instructions and a pic to aid in installation.

SIR/Cabelas is not contacting SKS customers

As stated before SIR is going to contact backordered customers and offer them a higher priced SKS or a refund. The higher price is in the $216 range. Calls are supposed to be going out now. Apparently over 600 backorders have to be contacted.

I've been in touch with Scott at SIR/Cabelas and they are requesting that you confirm with them. Before posting updates to this site about these backorders.

See the reply from Scott at SIR/Cabelas below:

I would have to say that is a rumor we have no confirmation of any of that yet, how about posting on gunnutz that they should confirm before posting ok, thanks.

I am waiting for my Moving Target to arrive. I am the only one so far to post my Yorkton trophy's. In the meantime, I have been researching shellac finishes. I am really thinking of ordering one of the new style firing pins for my shooter. There is a really cool video on Murraysguns.com that shows the abuse their firing pins can take. A must see.

I wish we could sort through this thread and create a cool doc out of all of this info on here. I know Curtton is collecting for his FAQ thread, but there are a lot of interesting posts with common questions for the enthusiast here that is not pertinent to his info collection..

Thanks to kwhunter, I am getting educated on shellac and its applications.
