So after some back and forth PMs I've finally met Martin at Corwin Arms. For the last couple of months I've been hounding him about the recent batch of SKS carbines he has brought back from his contacts over in Poland. Some of these imports have also included Mosin and SVT40s. Of note, he has brought in a few Mosins with Polish Army markings which is especially cool.

See here for the Mosin thread... http://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/showthread.php/1111151-Corwin-M44-s

Today I met Martin at the Calgary gun show at the Thorncliffe community hall and picked up an SKS from him. I thought some of the SKS nuts here might like to see it, as I haven't see much of this particular variety noted in many circles. And by that, I mean no where.

1952 Russian SKS-45, refurbed. All pieces have factory matching serial numbers with the exception of the Laminate stock which has no ###X but the proper serial number. Refurb mark on receiver cover. Birch hand guard.

AND...

Two Polish Army "W.P." markings.

One on the left side of the butt stock, to the rear of the serial number...

And one on the left side of the stock, between the bolt and the magazine...

No export marking that I have seen so far. He had two at the show, and this was the nicest of the two he had. No more coming in apparently.

This isn't one of the parade rifles and appears to have been in long term storage similar to the SKS that were coming out of the Ukraine.

Picture of 1956 Russian SKS45 in a Polish parade stock for comparison. Note, this is not an official Polish parade rifle, just a run of the mill Russian in a surplus stock I managed to find, to make a Polish Parade SKS example. Not trying to pass it off as authentic...

Of a secondary note he did have one that had the stock sanded down, and a very large font serial number on the left side of the butt stock. He explained that the Polish Army had the unit's crest on the stock, and these had to be removed by law prior to export. The stock had been sanded, restamped and then re-stained. You could feel the depression, and the number was noticeable to those keen on the sks, but anyone not knowing what to look for would probably not have noticed. Interesting piece for sure. There were no other marks on that rifle.

This one I picked up didn't have unit markings on it. No sanding, no BBQ paint. It has a refurb mark, but it doesn't look like anything was replaced. The old "yup, it works, but the stock sucks" refurb. Looks like it got a new stock and that was it. The W.P. is crisp on it, but the Polish Eagle (it is an eagle right?) is just able to be made out. He only had the two with the W.P. stamp on it.

The one with the sanded off crest looked like a typical refurb. The serial number was kind of cool on the stock where the unit crest had been, as the font was huge. Like 3 times larger than a normal Russian serial number, but still looked very crisp. He had a couple of these, but other than knowing that they came imported with the W.P. stamped ones, there was nothing to show it's Polish stop over between Russia and Canada.

If it had the unit/army crest still, I would have grabbed it too.

hey E , good score .

too bad the other one had to have the unit crest sanded off .

glad at least you got a little bit of SKS history .

I just googled what a polish army crest would look like and it looks really nice , it an eagle with a crown sitting on a pedestal and it has a "don't fook with us" look , lol.

too bad that's been wiped out.

NICE! I plan on ordering one of Martin's seemingly gorgeous Polish marked M44s. Been putting it off too long now.

I bought an all matching numbers SKS from him last week. I can't wait for it to arrive. He's a real pleasant guy to deal with. I forsee getting the whole collection of soviet guns from him over time. The polish marking mosin's he has on his website right now really interest me if I hadn't bought way, way too many guns already lately.

He mentioned the Polish SKS market was small, and dried up quickly. I would suggest if you are interested in something you may want to contact him regarding availability.

The Molot stuff just doesn't look as nice.
