russian toz

I see one on EE in rimfire section, look for mosin toz. Not sure if this is what you are after. Unless you are thinking the Polish made Wifama rifles where the wz-48 looked like the Mosin rifles (there was one for sale on EE recently but looks like it is gone now). The Wz-78 KBKS changed looks, the bolt kinda looked like Walther bolt. I bought one at some point from TradeEx but there was in rougher shape than the pictures showed and there was an issue with the sear, the rifle "fired" when you closed the bolt. I sent it back. I wish I could get my hands on a wz78 but in nicer shape, of course.
As I understand it, you are talking about the TOZ-78 bolt action rifle (the TOZ-99 is a semi-auto variant of the same rifle). They are long gone from the market in Canada and if you had a bit of lack, you might find one on the EE. But that would be hard.
If you want something very similar to the TOZ-78, the closest thing is the TOZ-17 which is now being sold by Marstar Canada for about $250 (they are used rifles). The TOZ-17 is the older model of the more modern TOZ-78. It still resembles closely the Mosin.
The TOZ-8M is a single shot rifle. The TOZ-17 is a 5-shot rifle with a magazine. Personally I prefer a repeater over a single shot rifle.
Just checked. Same things as being now sold by Marstar. Even prices are nearly identical.
To put it into perspective the great times when one could buy a Mosin 91/30 for $250 (the price of a TOZ) are gone with the wind. Nowadays the prices of the 91/30 are within $350-$1200 (the one with a side folding bayonet). A month ago I bought a most beautiful LAMINATED Mosin 91/30 with a bayonet and accessories for $452 including tax from Bullseye London. It's absolutely immaculate, all numbers matching, fantastic clean bore with a strong rifling. I already mounted a UTG Tri-rail mount on it and a LER scope (10" eye relief). It will be a poor-man powerful hunting rifle. On Monday I'll have a first shooting session at my range.
Surely you can buy a new .22 for $250 but would it shoot better then a bolt-action TOZ with an excellent bore? Who knows? May be, may be not.
Not much more money for a CZ 452/455 than your Mosin? Sure on the EE the CZ 452/455's go for $600-800. But they are .22 rather than 7.62x54R. Why compare both?
What i mean to say if a hundred or so dollars buys a forty year newer gun , not a mosin to a cz, a mosin to a toz is my comparison, no way I will trade any mosin for a toz apples to apples, and few are rare, only reason I want one my family would have used them.
I would have happily picked up one of the ####star TOZ 22's IF the condition was better. They are fair to good+ at best, not worth #### as a collector or a shooter at those prices. Buy a new Nork 322 from Tenda for $150 when they go on sale, better design, better shooter, and you won't lose $100 when you want to sell it.
Hitzy is talking about the Scorpio EM332A 22LR Bolt rifle with a 20" barrel by Norinco. The difficulty is that the Scorpios for $150 don't exist anymore. The cheapest one costs $199 at Durham Outdoors. Tenda has no Scorpios anymore. Long gone.
