just bought a Russian target pistol 22lr needed cleaning very bad but gut and wooden case in very good condition but the first round will not enter only with the help of pushing the slider it is a 5 clip sometimes the second one does the same but 3,4,5 goes through fine. I just finished giving the gun a really good cleaning still does the same. I tried Winchester hp and rem hp I found a so so manual on line in it it says to use target ammo is it much different.
Please Can anyone help me TKS

Target ammunition is "standard velocity" - a little slower than winchester and remington hollowpoint - the target ammo I've always used has 40 grain bullets, and the other stuff usually is a little lighter.
That doesn't affect chambering the first round, though. When you charge the pistol with the first round, do you release the slide by pulling it back and letting it go, do you thumb off the slide-stop, or do you hold the slide part way as it closes? If you hold it while it closes, it might not work properly, but you say it's sometimes malfunctioning on shot#2 also, so that may not be the problem.

Have you cleaned and very lightly lubed all the springs, buffers, guides, channels that operate the pistol? Have you VERY lightly polished the feed-lips on the magazine with something like #1000 wet-or-dry sandpaper?

Other than that - it's hard to say - I've fired a Margolin a few times but don't own one so my recollection of exactly how they function is quite hazy...
Cheers,
Walter

Thanks Aikinut and Caperbound
I'm not sure if I pulled it all the way back but I will try that and also try some 1000 wet dry sand paper, but it seems to be binding a little at the mouth of the clip

I just traded one for a canoe and had a devil of a time... It was very dirty... Whistle cleaned it, including the springs and clip springs... The clips that grip the bullet in the mag had spread out so reset, a few gentle taps with a light rubber mallet... Go to U-tube for dismantling and cleaning instructions finally switched to premium high speed ammo... 50 rounds today and never missed a beat!!! This firearm is built like a brick!!!

I had the chance to try one a couple months ago and the fella was using Eley or RWS ammo. It worked well for us.
