I would not necessarily say the Chinese SKS shoot better then Russian's. It all boils down to the armory where it was manufactured/assembled. There are many Chinese factories (roughly 150
codes) who either fully made them from scratch, or just assembled them. Take your pick. Some are top notch, and some are rough.When it comes to Russian rifles, the Izhevsk/Izhmash produced barrels tend to be a bit more accurate then Tula. The Izzy hard chrome plating process if a bit more refined from AK47 mass production which started in 1949... while Tula was making SKSes... So I am told. Ultimately, the Yugo is the most accurate mind you.
...but, I'm no expert.

Chinese MILITARY are fairly decent. They kind of simplified past what should be done. The real question is how much abuse did that rifle take in service, and whether it was refurbished at any point.
Chinese Type 56 (1956–): Numerous minor tweaks, including lack of milling on the bolt carrier, partially or fully stamped (as opposed to milled) receivers, and differing types of thumb rest on the take down lever. The Chinese continually revised the SKS manufacturing process, so variation can be seen even between two examples from the same factory. Some early examples are known as "Sino-Soviet", meaning they were produced by China, but with cooperation from Russian "advisers" who helped regulate the factories and provided the design specifications
My 1953 Izzy was refurbished. It looked ABSOLUTELY NEW when I got it. Rifling was beautiful, there weren't any handling marks on the stock! It shoots very nicely, decent groups, and is dead reliable. I think they did a great job.
I'd get the real McCoy. Check what you're going to buy, either way.

I hear the East German SKSs are the most accurate, if you can find even one.
I would say if you just want something to shoot, maybe modify to suit you, chinese. If you want something to shoot that looks nicer and is more for the history side, go russian. If in doubt get one of each and mod the sh$@ out of the chinese and keep the russian looking pretty.

Both are great , I prefer the Russian milled receiver , the 1954 - 55 -56 models are nice .

Get a new Chinese SKS if you want to shoot the thing. If you want it to look pretty then get a Russian with a laminate.
I find the Russians can be very hit and miss with accuracy. Even if you do your due diligence before you purchase the fact is that unless you buy new you don't know how many tens of thousands of rounds have already been through the rifle.
