rust blueing

Hi,

I am rust blueing a Cooey/Winchester 840 and I have problem with some parts. The receiver, hammer and barrell turned out very nice, but I have problem with the pins, trigger guard and the top lever. These parts seems to be made of a different metal and rust bluieng don't work. Do you have any suggestions?

How did you suface prep them?

The prep was the exact same as the other parts. I don't think it's stell.

Some of the later ones used non-ferrous metal for the top lever and trigger guard. You will have to paint them or some such.

When checking parts to see if they'll blue, remember, a magnet is your friend.

What do you suggest for paint?

birchwood casey's aluminum black seems to work well on some alloyed metals and not so well on others, no doubt due to the make up of the metal.you can also try any black rust paint on the trigger guard. if the gun gets a lot of use the paint will eventually wear off.

IMHO, Casey's Aluminum Black is Crap! You'ld be better off gunkoting the items that will not accept bluing.
