Thanks for the excellent thread, dilly.
I have done hot water bluing - no box - with gratifying results. But not a double barrel set. Have a pair of barrels which need to be done, will have to get to it.
Bead blasting the top of the rib is an excellent idea. Matte finish where it makes sense, the steel is left absolutely clean.

Has anyone tried that Radocy "rust blue" that PJ's carries? By the application method it is not really a rust blue solution. You apply it to heated metal like some of the other express blues.

Also if anyone is looking for rust bluing, there was also a member of CGN that was selling rust blue that he made up from an european "Swiss Armory Formula". It works very well. His email was posted not too long ago. Search old posts and you should find it.

Has anybody tried making their own rust bluing chemicals? Shouldn't be too difficult from what I've been able to find.
