Rust in Barrel of Brand New Mossberg 590A1

Never saw a Mossberg barrel that didn't have rust in it from the factory.Just chuck up a drill with a shotgun cleaning rod and wrap 0000 steel wool around the bore brush. Some guys like to use oil, I like Mothers mag & aluminium polish to give the bore a nice shine.YMMV.

One of my favorites for factory goop removal, followed by a proper Flex-honing of the bore to smooth the bastard out.;)

do they not chrome line their bores? I would think all companies this day and age chrome line their shotguns

chrome lining is a 1950,s tech , no one really does that, all the gun needs is oil, to get into the metal and all will be fine.
Most people are using a form of nitride to bbls today, but most shotguns are very cheap, chrome lining is not.
Most MFG look at it like this, why do a $50 chrome lined bore o na gun that cost them 90-115$ to make and it only going to MSRP at $440
now your benelli,s are chrome lined bore and salt bath nitride on the out side, but that's what you get for $2100.00

Liberal oil is the best oil there is! I recomend everyone buy as much as possible!
It is obtained in a similar way as olive or peanut oil but has steps used in oil and gas production. The liberals are first washed then boiled to soffen their crusty exteriors and remove grime and feces, then they are put into a large hydraulic press and squeezed until their greasy oily innerds are expelled through their pores into a reciptical leading to a heated atomaspheric fractional distiller.this step seporates the useable oils from the greasy sludge. The next step is to run the oil intoa catalytic reformer used to convert the oil-boiling range molecules into higher octane reformate (reformer product). The reformate has higher content of aromatic oils and cyclic hydrocarbons). An important byproduct of a reformer is hydrogen released during the catalyst reaction. The hydrogen is used either in the hydrotreaters or the hydrocracker.
There are also deslters and desulpherizers and a host of other processes.
The long and short of it is that liberal oil is made from liberals and should be used at all costs on/ in everything. Hell use old liberal oil to fertilize your lawn.
Liberal oil is a non renewable resource but there are alternatives when we run out so use as much as you can as fast as you can. ;)

Derailed with class lol

yeah both Baikal and Hatsan chrome their shotguns

Is the barrel just rusting from not being cleaned after the factory proof loads are shot? Like when you shoot corrosive ammo in a SKS and dont clean it for a month. I've owned and shot plenty of shotguns and will go months between shooting and regular clean/lube. Never had a rust ring in barrel.
I will have to go to the safe and look at the new 590A.

My brand new 590A1 SPX has it as well. No pitting but it would be nice if an $800 MSRP pump action didn't come pre rusted. Seems like it has something to do with the parkerising setup at Mossberg because the non parked models do not have the rust ring from what I have seen.

It's smooth to the touch, no texture to it. I couldn't be less concerned with it.
If you spend more time putting rounds through it than sitting around holding and inspecting it then this minor imperfection will eventually disappear.
