I know one guy who was given a nice Remington Mohawk #600 .308, but put it away wet-and the barrel is now pitted. What are the options?Ifthe barrel is ruined-is a viable recourse to install a replacement barrel?[shows why kids shouldn't be given rifles-even though this ''kid'' was 30]

If the pitting is minor, shoot it. The rifle will let you know whether it needs a new barrel or not.

I would strip it first and check all of the other parts for corrosion/damage, just for safety sake.

Scrub the bore down with a bronze bore-brush and some heavy lube (i.e. Fluid Film) to suspend any corrosion worked loose. Dry patch till clean. Then shoot - as previous - rifle will tell ya if bore is damaged.

Its a darn shame, the dad[my friend] had the rifle for years and then gave it to his kid who either didn't know,or care how to treat it.
