Rust in New 858 Barrel?

Hey guys,

I just got my CZ-858 in the mail today, and I was quite happy with it. I decided to check out what the bore was like and to my surprise I saw what looked to be rust (redish orange substance). I have not yet cleaned up the gun, but I was wondering if this was normal. I know the gun was testfired and had at least 6 rounds go through it. Did they use corrosive ammo? The bore did not look as crisp as my other milsurp guns either. Is the rust (or what appears to be) something to worry about? I hope not but I thought I would ask.

PS: I did try the search function, but could not find anyone else talking about this problem, so I hope it is not a double.
 
Most Combloc ammo uses primers that leave a corrosive residue in the barrel after firing and there for require the rifle to cleaned after each day of shooting .I suggest you contact the Dealer you purchased the rifle from and tell him about this and request another rifle as rust will degrade the accuracy of the rifle

Ya, I just bought it from Wolverine Supplies, so I will try to clean up the bore and see how it looks, and phone them tomorrow. I don't know, maybe it is just dirty, but it looks like rust to me, and the bore is definitely not shiny.

Oh good, I am glad. I will clean it up tomorrow and tell you guys what I find. This gun looks like it is going to be a lot of fun, I just wish we could get some more surplus 7.62x39mm now!

I just look at my VZ-58 (restricted version) I haven't cleaned it in over a year,put it away after a course (around 500rnds),not a speck of rust on the internals of the barrel , on the piston or on the bolt. Gotta love chrome. :)
Some surface rust on the front sight block that's it.
 
our CZ858 is non-chrome so we have to take extra care, i clean it the same day every time i shoot it.

I wonder why? Was there any particular reason such as absebce of crome-lined longer barrels?

No worries on reddish stuff, mine had the same, al gone after first cleaning. Bore looks shiny now but it was quite a cleaning session I had to give it tho. Seems to me it was just a grease, as mentioned before, nothing more.

Well I decided to keep it, even though it does have a little rust (although not as much as I originally thought.) The problem I am having now is getting the front lower hand guard off. It is held in by a pin just to the rear of it and I can't seem to get the pin out. The pin looks differently than the other pins on the gun, and I read somewhere it was riveted on both sides. Is that true? If so how do I get the handguard off? If i drill out the rivets how do I re attach the lower handguard after?

I was in Home Hardware in Yorkton about a month ago, they had a stack of cases of Czech ammo for sale at $149 a time, give them a call. Ask for Randy.

...And manufacturer always glad to pass it on. That's true about costly chrome, but sorry it doesn't sound reasonable in this case, especially with restricted 58s having chromed barrel and still in the same price range. Nay
I wouldn't mind paying even some more for chrome lining for the gun I will be mostly shooting surplus ammo.
 
my 858 came with reddish greasey crap on it i think. gave er a swab then a mexican tune up.. took it out and unloaded a few mags now she has a shiny bore....of shiny copper!

my m14 acually had moldy inch long hairs growing on it! YUCK!

I tried tapping it out, because I read that on another thread, but it won't budge so I included some pictures of the pin.

Here is the pin I am trying to get out. (One is of right side and one is of left side)

that is the right pin, it might just need more of a tap. mine required a good hit with the punch.

the other one pictured on the mag release does not tap out. there is a plastic hollow screw/plug thing in there that has to come out first if im not mistaken.
 
Looks like you have a different pin on your rifle than I have on mine, it looks like you will have to drill the end off one side so you can tap it through. But if you don't want to refinish it you might just as well leave it alone.
