As the title suggest I purchased this Urika 2 6 months ago and out of the blue I decided to give is a cleaning.

This is what came off the barrel after wiping vigorously for about 15 secs with clp. I can't imagine it being rust as I store the firearm in a climate controlled area and clean it after every field use but well that's why I'm posting. Is is some sort of lube from the factory perhaps? Or do i have too much clp / g96 on the barrel?

There is nothing visible on the barrel it's just nice and shiny as I keep my stuff lightly oiled at all times.

Suggestions?

I don't think its rust. You would likely be able to see the rust on a visual inspection of the barrel. I'd say if your celaning and oiling it regularly its just oil residue and some dust, etc.

If you keep things lightly oiled it could just be dust that has stuck to the oil. If you look really close at the barrel with a good light you should be able to see if there is any rust at all.

A 6 month old gun that hasnt been cleaned since you owned it?
I would say that its dirt.
dirt from the factory, dirt from you using it, and just plain old dust.
it isnt rust.

Thanks guys for the rapid responses that's what I wanted to hear, I have not shot it for about a month and that was when I last cleaned it. I was just reading some posts here and thought I'd give 'er a good once over as I will be using it next week for some trap.

to Ishootguns: I've already done a close inspection with a desk lamp and see nothing but shiny metal.

I'm a bit on the paranoid side as this is my favorite gun at the moment :D

Of course when i bought it I stripped the thing completely and oiled everything, now everytime I use it I pull the barrel and wipe everything down with clp or g96 and as I stated above it sits in the safe with one of those golden rod things to keep the humidity down.

I've seen the same thing when using clp as a protector on blued guns. I think that the clp is actually leaching iron or oron oxide from the barrel finish. To play it safe I tend to use it on parkerized guns and use a silicone cloth on blued guns.

I have seen this while useing CLP as well. My suspicion is that since blueing is a form of oxidization that the CLP is dissolving the blueing to a minor degree and it is wiping off leaving the brown rust like stain that is visible on the cloth.
