Well my .45 acp lyman die set is rusting (yes the carbide sizer is also rusting)!

Everything else in my basement and reloading room is fine (storing powder and primers upstairs) all my guns are rust free.

my lyman die set on the other hand, is taking a beating, any one else experienced that?

Your carbide sizer die will rust the same as every other chunk of pig iron die material in the world because it is not made of 100% tungsten carbide.

If you have been able to get rust to form on tungsten then you have achieved something that modern science has not.

Do you store the dies in the plastic box, or leave them out on the bench? Also, do you live in a damp or humid climate? If so, keep them in the sealed die dox with a desiccant packet.

yeah i leave em on.

but i don't want to unscrew them from the tool head, ill use a ziploc bag instead
climate is variable I'd say, my hygrometer shows about 40% humidity 8 months/year and over 80% the rest (summer of course)

fire up the dehumidifier and then pick up some free silica gel dessicant packs from your local pharmacy. (They ship with bulk pills/tablets). If you're leaving dies in the tool head, a heavy duty ziploc bag and a couple of silica gel packs should do the trick. A buffing with some light machine oil and 0000 steel wool should take care of any surface rust for now.)

Remember that it's just the insert which is made of carbide, not the whole die.

update on this.
my lyman trimmer is also rusting, but nothing of the rest of my gear
I have rubbed all rust away with g96, it worked it off easily and left a protective coat

A light coat of CLP, as you have done, will take care of future rusting problems. Relative humidity over 40% will cause steel to rust.
