0000 refers to a very fine grade... and steel wool is what I always use... I have never seen copper wool and I don't see any advantage to copper wool over steel wool... it's how fine it is that is important... and 0000 is the grade you want.

They have copper wool at the local home depot. I've used both (and brass). I've also seen a brass cartridge case used carefully as a scraper. Used judiciously, none will harm the barrel. - dan
