Rust on rem 700 varmint

Dip a small pad of 000 steel wool in a bit of SAE 30 motor oil and lightly rub. If you are careful, the rust will polish off without harming the blue.

Here is a very thorough test done on various gun lubes and corrosion protection. It's well worth reading.

For rust on a blued firearm, denim and CLP.

For rust on a parkerized firearm, CLP and a plastic or maybe bronze brush.

Cheap-ass Break Free CLP works amazingly well. So well that it a takes some shooting to get it all out of the bore, no matter how many times you patch!

Well I got around to cleaning the bore today and she's looks worse then the outside. I think this barrel is done.

Not surprised bar oil would work well. I haven't tried it, but have been using automatic transmission fluid for years. Six bucks and you have a lifetime of gun oil for a typical shooter, and it's exponentially more effective than something like Rem Oil...

Compressor oil and air tool oil work well too for $6/l. Some compressor oil like the motomaster has almost no odor to it either.
