Hi,
I let my friend shoot my S&W 617-6 recently. Went home put the gun in the safe without cleaning or wiping it down. A couple weeks later I took the trigger lock off to clean it and I saw the trigger covered with rust. Also the upper (checkered) part of the hammer was rusty. A rubbed it of with G96 and oiled it after.
Have you ever experienced this? Maybe acidic sweat?
Thanks

the trigger isn't stainless. and yes, some people are rust monsters, their sweat ph makes metal rust fast. I new a guy who could put his hand on a piece of sheet metal leaving work at 4 and by 7 the next morning their would be an orange handprint in rust....

when ever i let someone else shoot one of my guns i always wipe it down well for this reason.

It's well worth wiping the whole gun down with a lightly oily rag. The stainless alloys used on firearms isn't the super resistant stainless such as used in marine applications. The gun "stainless" is at best rust resistant. It still needs a light coat of oil. If you've been cleaning the gun up to now with something that leaves it "dry" on the outside you opened up the trigger and hammer to rusting. And likely the rest of the gun isn't far behind for developing some dark staining as well. Just a lightly oily rag will avoid the issue.

And then you found the "perfect" friend to boot with the rust promoting sweat.... :d
