Windex is only a way to spray water into the rifle. It is cheaper and more effective to use a pitcher of hot water from the tap. I sometimes take a Thermos of boiling water to the range with me. Hot water dissolves salt and the hot metal then dries within seconds.
The barrel then gets cleaned with a bore solvent in the usual way, and then everything gets a spray of G96 to lube and protect. Takes 15 minutes, tops.
