Rusted shut Marlin

I really like this restoration project. The pitted receiver is just a cosmetic thing. The receiver experiences very little pressure. I would be worried if the barrel/chamber were in rough shape, but not the outside of the receiver.

I think it's an amazing looking gun, and something I would personally enjoy having very much as a conversation piece and such.

Awesome work. Looks great to me!

Thanks for your encouragement guys.

I thank you all for your positive comments. The bore on this rifle is fair to good, with some pitting I admit. I bought a Weaver scope base today, will scope it this weekend and perhaps shoot it next Thursday.

When I do, if it is not TOO embarrassing, I'll post a target photo.

MD, you have really gone the extra mile on this one! Appreciate your efforts in getting this old girl back in business. :)

Don't have an extra die set, but I would like to contribute to this project! Need any 30-30 brass or bullets?

A 50/50 mix of raw linseed oil and mineral spirits will make the stock pop, giveit a few days between applications.

I know it's high, but that is what I had to spare in the cabinet. Should be good enough to give me an estimation of the accuracy.
