Strip my new 858.

Oil everywhere outside.

But the barrel is dry. You can see the what looks like rust inside...light pitting?.

Is this they way it goes with the 858?

I should give her a scrub then?

Afterwards if there is any evidence of 'rust' , I can call Wolverine.

Looks alot better. Crap is out. Red crap is gone.

But you can still see that....it's not that perfect shine. ..

I have to get up in 4 hours for work....

That looks awful, seriously. So bad, that I just went downstairs to take a look at MY brand new 858-2. I opened the action, shined a light in the chamber, peered down the barrel, I swear that if I could stick my head in the barrel, I could see my reflection in the metal. I got mine from Wolverine two weeks ago, took it to the range, ran 240 surp rounds through it (before cleaning it ), then just did the standard boiling water down the barrel, and brought it home, cleaned it with bore foam. So, I think yours is just a dud, try cleaning it, if it doesn't sparkle, call Wolverine, I bet they'll take good care of you. They really seemed like a great crew, I went there in person to buy mine.

Is it an 858-2, with the non-chromed barrel? Or one of the other models, with a chromed barrel? I never looked down my barrel before I cleaned it, so I can't say how it looked when I brought it home, but like I said, now it's a mirror finish inside there.

If I bought that rifle NEW, I would not be happy with a barrel looking like that & a cracked handguard...

Cheers
Jay

Wow...that sucks. I got mine from Wolverine 3 weeks ago, and it was in almost pristine condition (small gouge on lower hand guard).

Give them a call, or email pics with a letter...they will set things straight. :)

mine was full of crud... cleaned her out and she was good to go - no pits no rust.

mine is chrome lined so I dont know if that makes a diff.

It took me quite a bit to get it clean.

I used my trusty Lead remover cloth, I luv that stuff.

Scrubbed it good....brushes , swabs...cleaner...I never had a barrel so dirty.
Even after coming back from the range!

It is 98% again. I find it acceptable Now

I bought one of the first ones Marstar brought in, and mine was like yours, rusty, showed signs of being well used. They changed the description of their ads after the fact to state they were "newly" manufactured using new and used parts.....I was pretty pissed at the time...but hey, at least we can get them.

Thats good to hear. It would have sucked if it was not cleanable.
