Rusty mould blocks

for storage I dip my blocks in motor oil and put back in the plastic box. I have not seen any rust show up for many years of casting.
 
I have had this happen. I just spray some Break Free on the mould, let it soak in a zip lock bag for a couple of days and wipe it down with 0000 steel wool. Cleans off the rust, doesn't hurt the bluing.
 
Rust in a mold cavity = another excuse to powder coat. I have some molds form the turn of the century or earlier (330 gr &300 gr marked Win. 45-90 & another just 45 govt.) that have acquired a thick rust "patina" that would change the dia big time to remove so I just use them "as is" ,give the slugs a covering of PC, they work great in my Japchester 45-90.
 
Happened to me once... and I’ve been coating my steel mould blocks with FluidFilm ever since. Interestingly, though, while the bullets cast from the now rusty blocks were dimpled (like a golf ball) the accuracy was not affected. Go figure.
 
I had some very minor discoloration /rust in one of my molds when I first started casting and freaked out .The Evaporust took everything out even the the OEM finish right off.I reblued them and they seem to be fine.I can't recall exactly how long I left them in the solution,overnight I think which was probably overkill....
