A couple of months ago I bought a 91/30 bent bolt from Westrifle and it came with a rusty pitted bore. I have cleaned it with a number of compounds, bronze and steel brushes to no avail. I have fired about a 100 rounds out of it too. As you run a patch up the bore you can feel it grab near the top 3rd where all the pitting is. It even appears to pick up fluff from the patch.

When I take it to the range the first group is good and it begins to open up after that. I guess the pits in the bore are picking up jacket fouling.

Would lapping the rough areas in the bore help? If so can I get some guidance how this is accomplished.

Thanks

You could give them a call the bent bolt ones cost quite a bit. They might send you another one or give you a discount on a new one if you trade it in. Or buy a regular mosin cheap and swap out the bolts.

There's nothing to do about that, once the bore is pitted, will stay pitted. Pitted bore, as you saw, foul quickly. Depending of pitting level, rifle with a somewhat pitted bore can still shoot well. Pitted bore is very common in milsurp firearms.

Get JB bore bright then JB bore cleaner. The finnal step would be flitz then wrap it up with some wipe out ;)
Drill with rods and the tip use the mop for the flitz and the brass brush for the jb. As for the wipe out well that normal cleanning ;)

its always a gamble when buying mosins out of the crate .after three i gave up.out of the five i have purchased only one was what i call g-vg.and it was i private purchase not from a site sponser.that being said all of them would shoot sixish inch groups at 100 meters thats the service specs.you may find the more fouled it gets the better it shoots.my days of throwing money away on run of the mill out of the crate 91/30s are over i feel for ya bro
