Recently received an sks from a fellow member valued at $260 in a trade. I asked about use and he said he only fired 30 rounds of non corrosive ammunition through it and it functioned well. I was picturing a good condition refurb, having seen a few in the past this one looks like it’s been neglected since it left cosmoline land. Please let me know what you think it’s value is. The sad thing is that he even removed the barrel from the stock so there’s no way he was unaware of this rust. Anyways.. Here’s the pictures.

Thanks!

Wow, sounds shady there. I would be in contact with that guy to resolve this. Personally, the sks is overpriced as it is right now, but I wouldn't pay more than $150 for it in that condition.

That is old pitting. It was like that before it was sold off surplus. Just clean off the scabbing. Not much you can do about the pitting. If the bore is OK, it will be a decent shooter.
What do ho-hum SKS rifles sell for these days? I don't know that $260 in trade value is too far off; depends on what you traded.

two months ago id say you got royally hosed but since they are selling close to $500 you got it for today's market value.

I guarantee you could sell for what you paid possibly a bit more, even with those pictures.

If I paid $260 pre Corona I'd be pissed. $250 now is a bargain for any SKS now. As long as the bore is good, I'd just grab a beer, wire brush and clean it up.

yup, if the bore isnt rusted then you got not bad of a deal.

Yea, my thoughts are in this market it is probably worth $200. Check out the bolt, firing pin and channel, if they are ok, give I think a good cleaning and shot one round first, then two and if all is ok the next fire away, enjoy it.

There is a sponsor selling a stock, receiver and barrel for 150. Looks not great, leave a negative feedback and move on. When this happens to me it’s usually because I did not ask for pictures. Many sks coming in now are mismatches and rusted.
