Rutting Bucks

Does the meat from a rutting buck have a stronger flavour?

I find that the taste of a grain fed buck is much worse than any rutt'n buck that has been eating alph-alpha or clover.

Grain fed beef or deer taste ####ty. :!:

I also belive in taking the hide off the deer within minutes of being shot, I realy think it helps with the rutting bucks coverd in piss.

Remember to take those oily glands off the hind legs too, very important :!:

How does piss and semen get into the meat from the hair? Only the hunter can be responsible for that.

I suppose your right. Having piss make it into the meat through the hide doesn't make sense.

I was talking about the hock glands they urinate on. If the glands are releasing phermones I thought maybe the glands might be a two way street and the meat take on some of the properties of the urine.

Now that I think of it that doesn't make sense either because then the meat would be tainted with metabolic waste.

I'll just sit and listen to everyone else.

Another myth. I've discussed this with a biologist and I really didnt need it confirmed. The point that he made was that more people contaminate their meat by not washing off their knife with soap after cutting off the gland. Wiping it or just water is not enough. I've had game wardens at the pole telling me the same thing.

If its -minus- cold out like it usually is during mid November, you really don't need to get the hide off right away but it would be easier to skin it warm. The glands are a non factor. I skin the deer and then cut the legs off at the butchers door. Its easier in camp to keep the scavengers off when the hide is on.
