I noticed dlask has a decent deal on rwb(red white and blue) op rods, which are forged as a single part, rather than welded together. Got me thinking its time to upgrade some of the clunky norinco parts.

Can someone enlighten me to the benefits I would see if I replaced my stock op rod wth the rwb one? Would I see accuracy gains for example?

The other question is around the metric threading on the norincos vs usgi. Will a usgi op rod be a drop in replacement? Or will other parts need replacing, or smith work required?
 
The RWB op rods are good. I've got a couple on some builds...
However, your chinese op rod is a single piece forged unit as well and is one of the parts worth keeping on your norc. A new op rod will also need to be fitted by someone who knows what they're doing.

I could never understand why people seemed to think that they had to ditch the Factory Nork Op Rod for a USGI op rod......................The Nork Op rod is just as good as USGI...............Unless you are a TRW snob like me (Thanks Hungry ....;)....) and have to have all TRW parts........:D

I'm over the TRW snobbery now. I've stuck with my Norc M14 op rod. Never run across one breaking so that will work for me. :D

Installing an op rod is a tricky operation because of the limited amount of metal on the op rod tab. Go and have a look at your Norc op rod tab. I spoke about this issue in my clinics. You see in order to get any other op rod to fit, metal has to be shaped in order to fit the op rod track. :rolleyes:

My suspicion all along is/was that the Norc M14 receiver's op rod track is a tad bit narrower and the incoming USGI or RGW or whatever new op rod may have to be fitted. And that is the tricky operation. I'm out of my experience set on this one. Frankly, I would just leave the Norc op rod on the Norc receiver, but that's my 2 after-tax cents worth. :nest:

RWB oprods are to usgi spec and have been tested rigorously by the "who's who" in the m14 world down in the states. An excellent replacement for a worn springfield, chinese or usgi oprod.
They DO REQUIRE proper fitting by someone who knows what they are doing.
They ARE NOT an instant accuracy upgrade.
They retail in the u.s. for 219.00 USD on average..... Dlask's current price is outstandingly exceptional.

I agree with skullboy and hungry though, there is no reason to rush out and replace your one piece forged norc oprod...... unless it is worn out and the oprod has a lot of up and down play or wiggle (some come this way but most have sufficient tab to be acceptable)..... OR for those doing up a build who want a new part hand fitted to thier specific receiver. Ask those who i've installed these for, you get a silky smooth.... almost hydraulic feel to the oprod if it's done just right :cool:

but it's good to know that such a part is availlable here in canada if and when you might need one. ;)

I use USGI TRW, Chinese and SEI op rods... all three are forged from a single piece of steel :)

I would not choose RWB over any of the three listed above.

would be interested as to why ALL 3 make your list but not the RWB.... helps that you live in the U.S. with wide availlability of parts..... but up here in Canada..... one can not readily aquire NEW usgi, used but serviceable TRW and we sure as sh*t can't get SEI...... yet (i hear we have a sei importer in the making)

Chinese doesn't make my list simply because on MOST i have inspected, though serviceable, the tab dimensions are nowhere close to usgi, sei or rwb.

I sent SEI all of my Chinese op rods and they picked the best two for my M21A5 builds...
all 5 passed inspection and I would have purchased SEI if they had not.

The answer to your question: I have no experience with RWB, they are
low on my list due to the availability of quality parts I have to choose from.
RWB should serve you well and I hope an SEI distributor becomes available to you soon.
 
cool, i figured maybe you had bad experience with them and was hoping that was not the case. So far I have installed over 30 now for clients who seem to be very happy with them.
Through the vine I have heard that an approved canadian SEI distributor is on the cusp of opening up shop. I have the name and contact info and will be doing my own follow up ;) I'm rather excited about the prospect of being able to easily source SEI parts for my clients...... can't come soon enough
 
RWB operating rods made in Taiwan ? No.
Those operating rods were made in Korea and they are used and sold by LRB Arms of Long Island (forged M14 type rifle receivers) and Fulton Armory - and others - in the USA. They are also available from Brownells Inc. and now from Dlask and our own M14 Doctor on this side of the border.
If they are good enough for LRB Arms and all the others, well they are good enough for me. I bought two of them - very well made and within specs, naturally.
