Just bought a Berretta Elite II air gun. It says to use RWS Chamber Lube. It costs $11 for a 1/2 once. Is that a rip off, or normal, or is there a real substitute. I've seen discussions that go in different directions. Some use veg oil or mineral oil, pelgunoil, others motor oil! Seems strange you pay $55 for the gun, and 20% of that on a 1/2 oz of oil!

Just to make sure, the chamber lube was to be used on the end of the gas cartridge before piercing it, yours says mineral oil for it? When you check the reviews on the gun, most say it is great for the money, but a few complain about leaks in the cartridge, failed seals or broken cartridge port. I just want to avoid damaging this in case there is some additive needed in the mineral oil? Never shot a C02 gun before, so I am completely stupid on the subject!
From what I've read on the net any oil thats compatible with rubber is safe, pelgun oil is just straight 30wt oil and most of the CO2 gunners use it for the drop on the cartridge end. I can't imagine a gun manufacturer using seals that are any different than everyone else since most are made in the same place.

The reason for recommending RWS oil is it's a non-petroleum base lubricant that won't damage the spring on spring piston guns. The petroleum based lubes can cause detonation in the chamber and damage your spring/gun. If it's for lubing the piercing needle for a CO2 cartridge, it really shouldn't matter what you use. Just don't over do it. A drop is all thats needed.
