This premium version of RWS is new, to me anyway, but I would think someone here has already tried it. Are there any reviews?

(BTW, the less premium RWS Target version is the stuff I had bleeding little puddles of lube just sitting lined up on the shooting bench last summer, but I think I worked out was that it was because it was sitting in the bright sun (whereas I wasn't, and it wasn't particularly hot either). I might suggest that all RWS not be placed sitting in a sunbeam, pending further trials. The Target ammo did shoot quite well, if it was still lubed. Dry of lube, not so well.)

Are there any reviews?

While no one should expect a reliable review to say how an entire variety of ammo will shoot, most lots will shoot well, but some will be better or worse than others. Like any match ammo produced by the big three match ammo makers -- Eley, Lapua, and RWS -- the performance of RWS Special Match will vary by lot.

Since RWS Special Match is "Premium Line" it must be produced in the same production run that produces other Premium Line ammos, specifically RWS R50 (their best) that have the same factory-rated MV -- in this case 330 m/s (or 1083 fps).

It may not be unreasonable to think of this as the RWS line of ammo that is similar to Lapua Center X or Eley Team, both of which are the least expensive variety of those ammo makers' standard rifle match ammo. How any of these performs depends on the lot.

This and the Target Rifle are supposedly the same as the two Norma TAC22 (red box and black box).
It is good when you find the right lot for your rifle but here are no lot numbers to confirm.
When you find one that works and you find the rest of the case it came from is the closest you will get to duplicating the results.
The higher end brands of RWS are R50 and R100.
There is also Special Match, Rifle Match and Special Match S . . . I think. Targt shooting products show them all as being sold out.

As to the lube, one hot daywhen the temp hit 38 degrees, one shooter claimed the lube was ripping off the lead and when they went down the bore . . . you could hear them screaming.

Some further information.

In the Premium Line, RWS R50 is the "best" standard velocity grade. RWS R100 is a faster ammo and the manufacturer says it's made for 50 to 100 meters.
(Note: in the images below there is a misprint in the RWS information. The barrel length for the RWS Special Match should be 650mm, the same as that used for R50.)

The standard velocity RWS rifle ammo varieties include RWS R50, Special Match, Rifle Match, Target Rifle, and Club. It's likely that some of the varieties listed as "Pistol" rounds may in fact have the same "factory-rated" or nominal velocity as the standard ammos just identified. Since the ballistic information given is with different barrel lengths, however, it remains unclear which ones they may be.

I too made the remark to the effect that the dry lead was screaming as it went down the barrel, but in my case it wasn't that warm out except I guess in the direct sunlight. And those rounds did become much less accurate at 100 yds.

That's great, thanks. And thanks to both of you gentlemen.
