I have an early PPK that is RZM as well as muzzle serial numbered. I have researched it on several American sites and came up with a value for it down South. As our market is much smaller and being 12/6, I was wondering what would be a fair asking price here?
It is in good shape overall and while the serialized magazine is rare on it's own the serial number does not match the gun.

I think the muzzle serial number makes it an SS gun. Let me check my books! That's a pretty nice example. I know muzzle serial numbered SS RZMs numbered fewer than 2000, which would be a ballpark price for this one! Off to check the bank balance now...

The American group, National Automatic Pistol Collectors Association had a long article in their newsletter, "Automag", a few months ago about SS PPKs. You might want to email the editor, Tom Knox about this. If you have trouble getting in touch with them and want to pursue this, PM me and I'll help.

Thanks for the information guys! It is a unique piece and there is alot of information available out there but it's nice to get pers opinions.

I have a PPK used by German Air force in the 1970s. Looks just like yours. Your WW2 gun is worth big bucks In the States . It would sell in the US I think as its considered a Collectible. Problem is to find someone who knows how to do all the paper work,There is a dealer in Montreal Luger collector who may help you,he is on GUN NUTZ

Nice valuable PPk !! Research on this one is worth it as it may be even rarer (SS Unit issued) as some mentionned...

As for Imports in the USA, I'm sorry but it cannot be Imported in the US as it doesnt meet the minimum BATFE requirements....

Canadian market value would be in the 1 K range, more if provenance is SS linked,

The RZM PPKs were prized bring backs from WWII because of their connection to the Nazis. They are mostly middle-1930s pistols. The SS-RZM above is quite unique. I believe Zipperhead sold his a while ago.

Sadly, our PPKs are not going to go South in the near future, as Kidvett says, they fail the BATF minimum standards. Simpson and others are importing plenty of wartime PP pistols (they seem to have dozens of Zella-Mehlis .22s) but any WWII PPKs are either pre-1968 or smuggled.

Our American friends won't even take back their own pistols and revolvers that "do not meet sporting needs", such as Colt and S&W snubbies and old autos. They will accept some of our prohibs as antiques, but those are pre-1899.

We do have 12(7) here -- a blood relative with a regular R-PAL can receive one of these Zella-Mehlis (pre-1946) pistols. They are not all destined for the smelter, unlike their newer brothers made in Ulm, or assembled in France by Manurhin.

There are quite a few RZM PPKs in Canada, and thousands of Zella-Mehlis PPKs (pre-1946), but I haven't seen one for sale with the SS serial numbering or the excellent condition of Zipperhead's pistol, even in collection catalogs. If you have one like it for $1000, let me know!

In my opinion, "kidvett" and "gunzik" are right about the gun being offered as a collectible, and not exportable to the US. If it did not have the "RZM" logo, the value would be considerably less, but it is a true collectible, and in apparently fine condition, whether or not it's an SS gun, and should be priced accordingly. It still won't bring the kind of money that it would in the US, but as a collectible in Canada, it will bring more than a run-of-the-mill PPK would.
