I purchased a 5 inch Shooters Arms Manufacturing 1911 Enhanced in .45ACP from Wolverine. My initial intent was to use it as a dedicated lower for a 70 series .22 Colt top conversion unit.
When the pistol arrived I promptly tore it down for inspection. The gun I received from Wolverine is tight and smooth; it is well fitted out with dove tail sights front and rear, combat hammer, and a memory bump beavertail grip safety. The trigger is medium length and pull was pretty standard for a 1911, a little travel but a clean break; it was a little heavy from what I am used too but no heavier then I’ve seen from other factory builds – a bit of stoning took care of that, but all in all not bad.
The slide to frame fit was very good, no drag on the barrel bushing, slide release was very smooth and clean, and the magazine dropped cleanly and positively away from the mag well.
The finish on the gun was very nicely done giving it a real clean look, and the feed ramp did not contain any chatter or tooling marks.
My only negative issue with the firearm would be the grips that came with it, this is an easy change as the Wolverine build comes with the standard mil spec grip bushings.
The gun shot very well to P.O.A. at 25 yards using a standard 230grain bullet load. I put a hundred rounds through the gun with no F.T.F. or extraction problems.
One thing on my wish list for this gun would be a lowered and flared ejection port, although I did not find this to be an issue as the brass did not suffer.
A cleaning inspection of the gun did not produce any surprises, no signs of abnormal wear or peening of the metal. Time and more rounds will tell.
I own a number of 1911’s Colt, Kimber, Taurus, Wilson Combat. (I.M.H.O.) The quality of this gun far exceeds the ones I’ve seen from Norinco and RIA (sorry to any owners, my intent is not to pick other manufactures apart) – at this price point you can’t beat it. I feel there is a lot of quality here and I would definitely recommend this gun.
I am very happy with this purchase!
