Okay before anyone jumps on me, I want to say I used the search and advanced search and it didn't bring anything up about this brand of 1911

I'm new to the hand gun world, (never owned one yet but am currently looking)
I have looked at a few 1911's and found the S.A.m. brand from Wolverine. I liked the price as it is definitely affordable.
I'm just wondering what they are like for use, fit, feel, finish etc.

Like I said before, this will be my first hand gun and I wanted some input from anyone who has one or had owned one in the past?

Part of the reason I picked this brand was cost savings, I don't have a lot of money to throw around and didn't want one in .22 cal version.
As well what should I go with .45 or basic 9mm?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

There is also Norinco, which are pretty reliable. However a box of .45ACP rounds is not cheap, by any means.

As a previous poster said, check Wolverine Supplies, they sell SAMs

Check Canada Ammo for bulk .45. The deal's so good you'll sh!t yourself

That deal on Norinco ammo is fairly good. I just remember the days when I used to buy Winchester 230 grain hollowpoints in boxes of 50 for $17.95. Fantastic ammo.

The Norinco stuff is good ammo though and the brass reloads well. I have never chronied the stuff though.

I have a SAM commander in 45acp. It has fed 230gr factory hardball and reloads as well as 200 gr LSWC without a single feeding issue. Trigger is much better than norks I have tried but not as good as my STI spartan. Fit and finish is much better than norks I have handled as well. If you don't reload I would definately go the 9mm route to start because of factory 45 prices. Now if you can raise a few more hundred I would go with a Spartan in 9mm. You will never regret it!

We just had a number of SAM 1911 delivered.

There are on the website here

I'll probably head back into the office tonight to check them out!!

For those in Ontario drop by the store to get a hands on yourself. (Well, hands on the pistol anyway, we prefer that over hands on yourself in our store) ;)

:D

I just got back from the range and can say that the SAM Commander-E .45 ACP performed flawlessly using factory Blazer 230 grn. FMJ. I bought mine slightly used (100-150 Rnds.) and saved some money but even at retail they are worth looking at.
I am just getting set up to re-load .45ACP and will try a 200 grn. RNFP hard cast bullet...it will be interesting to see if the SAM will feed the re-loads.
This is the second time out with the old Colt 1911 with a new barrel and after the final tweaking of the feed it also worked perfect.
I didn't take any pictures this time out but here are some from last week:

If your intent is to shot a lot, you might want to consider a 9mm. It's easy to reload and you can buy a box of 50 rounds for 16$-19$.

That's the route I took for my first handgun (Norinco 1911 9mm) and went up from there.

You probably don't want to hear this, but consider a 1911 in .22!

At first I thought I wanted a .45 1911. Then I thought a 9mm 1911 might be better since it costs less to shoot and then I realized if I'm looking to shoot cheaply, a .22 for the first hand gun makes since.

$25 for 525 rounds vs $50(9mm) for $16. It will be your first hand gun, you're gonna want to shoot it a lot.

I guess if you don't plan on getting another hand gun for awhile then a 9mm is probably the way to go. I figured having a .22 for practice and a cheap shooter would be good. Since I'd probably get 9mm Glock next, or a .45 Norinco/SAM/STI sometime in the next few months if I enjoyed the hobby.

Anyways I got the GSG 1911 in .22 LR.

Thanks for the Input guys. I really appreciate it. I have spent the day looking at different prices of ammo and a couple different 1911 models and I think for the amount I will be using it, I will start off with the 9mm S.A.M. I don't think for the price of around 500 I can go wrong. I'll start from there and see what else happens.
I also had a thought that I could also pick up a .22 conversion later on. I guess kinda like having 2 guns in one.
I'm pretty excited about getting this gun. It will be my first hand gun.

Now here's the question. Do I pick one up now, or should I wait for the Calgary gun show and see if I can find a S.A.M. cheaper there?

Sorry Bristow84, I don't actually have any info for sure. I have seen on another website that it will be April 6-7 at the BMO center Building on the Stampede grounds.
Hopefully this isn't false info I'm giving out.
I like the show. I have gone the past couple years and it has been good. (keep in mind I am kind of new to this sport so anything is good at this point haha.)
Maybe someone else can confirm this info. And we digress.

If you want a .45 as your first handgun buy it. I did. Ya rounds are more expensive, you only live once. There's always cheap 9mm's out there. Buy one later on. Handguns are like lays chips. Betcha can't have just one.
