I've only tried them on short barreled rifles, definitely made them more pleasant to shoot than an A2 or muzzle brake if only due to the redirection of noise/concussion. I've heard that they're supposed change the recoil impulse by pushing straight back, but to be honest I didn't notice much of a difference in that regard. I think linear comps are good for short barrels or bullpups, but on a standard rifle with a longer barrel honestly I'd just go with a flash hider or something.
