S and W 686

i just purchased a new S & W 686 and since it was mentioned in this thread the locking mechanism above the cylinder release (Hilary Hole?) what is it's purpose? to replace a trigger lock or is it completely useless in the real world

thanks

It was a deal S&W made with the Clinton administration (they caved in) and never bothered to stop producing. It's supposedly a safe trigger lock.

I removed mine and the lock flag that goes with it and bought a plug for the hole.

Can you provide a close-up picture of what the plug you have installed looks like in the gun?

I got this one from John Witt in the US - the first person who came up with it and started selling them AFAIK. He no longer advertises them.

A different version can still be had in Canada - I won't post the link or the company name as it will get removed from here.
google - Original Precision, Lock Delete, Fits S&W K, L & N Frame -
