Here's a semi usable translation (thanks to google translate) from the German website:

The 1-8 x 24 PM ShortDot is the logical development of the proven 1.1 to 4 x 20 ShortDot PM. The range of applications has been extended considerably by the extreme magnification. The fine reticle in the first image plane allows a precise work up to 800 m. By ShortDot in the second image plane gives the model its possible use as a red dot sight at short distances - the red dot is not mitvergrößert.

With the newly developed CC - mode ", the scope of the shortest distances with 1.0 times magnification to be used as a red dot sight parallax. Off is the red dot disappeared completely and there remains a normal reticle.

The lighting unit offers 5 levels of light for use in bright daylight. The red dot is even on snow or sand in the bright sunlight visible. For use in low light conditions are provided for three levels and a further 3 steps allow the use of night vision goggles.

The center tube diameter is 30 mm. A change from 1.1 to 4 x 20 PM ShortDot to 1-8 x 24 PM ShortDot is possible without problems. The control covers the vertical and lateral adjustments, and the lighting unit is secured by an automatic locking system that prevents inadvertent adjustment.

It looks pretty sick. All of the upgrades over the older Short dot are for the better. So far I have not heard of anything I dislike. The cost and weight are going to be the big downers!

I think he gets it backwards in the video but the best feature of this new model is that the dot and reticle are on different focal planes. The reticle is still in the first focal plane meaning it increases and decreases in size in direct proportion to the magnification while the dot has been moved to the second focal plane and remains at that small precise dot size, no matter what magnification the sight is set to.

The other point to note over the Leupold is that S&B has still managed to retain the 30mm tube instead of bumping it up to 34mm.

Hello Gentleman!!:

A thread with some very familiar AR enthusiast!!

I very much look forward to more comments and perhaps actually seeing a unit.

With respect, I would much rather pay 3k for S&B than Leupold (the unsubstantiated rumored price of the Leupold optic)

Does anyone know if & when any board sponsors will be carrying said optic?

Regards

AbH

You RICH guys are making me feel like a cheap skate for mounting a HAKKO 1 - 5X, with the weird dot in the circle reticle,
and the part time illumination,
on my AR-15 M4gry.

The Hakko was probably one of the first so called "short dot" scopes ever,
and of course was made in Japan [ by HAKKO no less],
The scope seems exceedingly sturdy,
and is clear enough for these old once melted eyeballs to make those 50 yd B zone shots.

The cheap Hakko is mounted on a cheap NORC M4,
using [@$#$$%$% expensive ] Leupold QRW rings,
instead of an even more expensive QR tacticool mount,
The M4gry is usually running a CMMG .22 LR conversion kit for cheap practice.

Did any one catch the word "CHEAP" in all this??

So I guess I saved about a BAzillion dollars to buy more ammo,
and I have enough left over to buy a BOAT!!!!

Lazerus2000 it all comes down to 10,000 rounds to hit what you are shooting at or 1 shot for 1 hit. Although you should not knock your HAKKO scope as the glass in it is good Jap stuff but nothing compare's to top end German quaility glass. Last time I looked down a S&B it was like some 1 chopped my head off and threw it down range. On Nemo's high end sniper rig I could make out a cotton ball flying threw the air @ 200 meter's as if it was right in front of my eye's. Although the down side I do agree is that most rifle's that it will be going on will be worth less than the scope itself.

I like what I've read about this scope ... wish I could handle such stuff prior to purchasing ... yet I live in the middle of nowhere ... :( ... I think this may be the scope for my M14 shorty project ... I think I think ... :D

I just watched the video. What a sweet scope. Now all I need to do is win the 50 million on Friday. It's way out of my price range.

I too just had a look at the video.

DAM YOU Angry Eyebrows..........................DAM YOU!!!!  :D

The optic would be very much at home on a 16" barreld AR in 308

First need to find distributor..............

Then let the creative financial planning commence................

We now return back to our regular programing :)

Otokiak, that is one optic you don't need to handle first. buy it, and on the very odd chance you don't like it you could sell it fast. Don't think there is a better optic made in that magnification range. should san come out with the sapr in Canada this is the optic that will sit atop mine.
