so ive got about 500 pieces of S&B 9mm brass, i know they have smaller primer pockets and have a swager to take care of that. I had to tighten the collet on my lee decapping and sizing die to stop it poping out the top, now though the actual pin is getting caught in the flash hole and getting pulled right out of the rod  what can i do i dont want to damage the dies, should i just say screw it and use other brass?

S&B not only has crimped primers but an undersized flash hole, as does some Ruag surplus brass. It is a royal pain to remedy. As mentioned above u can drill the flash hole out, or reduce your decapper diameter but on a small qty like 500, its hardly worth it. Your choice though as u may live in an area where 9mm brass is hard to come by.

huh, my LnL just pops em out and pushs in teh primer, must be a light crimp, never swaged one, never stuck in the flash hole, maybe hornady dies have a smaller diameter decap pin.

lol lucky you, im thinking im just going to stock pile it up until it becomes worth getting a smaller diameter decapping pin, or different dies.

Regular S&B brass isn't too bad but the stuff marked NT (really clean case after firing and red dye on the primers) has the smaller flash hole.

I toss it myself but if a person had a quick system for drilling them out they would be fine. I suspect that you might get primers backing out if you don't but never bothered to find out.

Reloading 'range-grazed' 9mm last night and found I'd missed two S&B. I deprime manually, so that wasn't an issue but I couldn't figure out why the primers were having such a hard time going in (and that's not a die issue). Turns out they were S&B. Well, they were already primed, so I kept them, but painted their bases with a Sharpie to remind myself to toss them next time.

Dudley - you say you have a primer pocket swager. Your problem would thus seem to be primarily decapping. Here's a thought - the pins are just a length of steel; there's nothing hi-tech about them.

Perhaps your local hobby store has steel rod of the right diameter to fit S&B flash holes - depending on how your dies are set up, it might or might not hold in place.

Alternatively, you could chuck a spare pin into a drill and use a file to reduce its diameter. Bit of a PITA, but then you'd only have to turn down a centimetre or so. That way, the other end would still fit properly in your die.

3/16 drill bit is what i ended up tyring haha and it works just knock them out manually with a hammer... ok so not the fastest but its just like using the lee loader i once had hahaha.... i have a family friend with a machine shop with CNC and the whole nine yards i might try and get him to help me make something a little more refined then a drill bit and hammer lol.

i realize now that the issue with it pulling the pin out was with the nontox brass.... ill give the regular barss another try tonight and see how it goes....locktighted the pin in :D

Careful with that Locktight - if the pin ever breaks, you might have a real fun time replacing it.

I have about 2,000 of S&B brass in 9mm (and another 2,000 still unfired), all decapped with a Lee die. Maybe it is because I'm a noob, but I haven't had a problem yet. Sometimes it feels like the pin is catching on the side of the flash hole, I just rotate the brass & give it another gentle push. I haven't primed this brass yet, so I wonder if I should examine the flash hole & check if I managed to disfigure it somehow?
