S&B slug question

I have a question for all of you who have used S&B 12 gauge slugs. Are these slugs soft lead like typical foster type slugs or are they a harder lead alloy?
Has anyone done penetration tests with them?
They look very similar to a brenneke slug. Do they perform like a light brenneke?

No one here has some laying around they could at least do a scratch test on to see if they are hard lead

They are soft lead foster slugs. The 1 1/8oz I have are rather slow as well.

Well they certainly don't appear to be foster slugs. They certainly are brenneke style. Just hoping they were harder alloy. I might just have to give them a try, and do some penetration tests on my own.

I havnt bought any yet. That is the reason I am asking these questions. From the pictures of them it appears they are like a wadcutter with a raised center like a brenneke. Are yours dome shaped hollow point like a foster slug?

The S&B Super Sport Slugs, while Brenneke in appearance, are regular, elemental lead. I've been through a few cases, good stuff.


If you are shopping for something along the lines of Brenneke in term of penetration performance, look for a projectile with antimony alloyed with the lead, such as Federal's "Deep Penetrator" slugs.

Ya I was looking at those. I shoot challenger slugs typically they penetrate extremely well. However at more than $2 a shot they are not very economical. I'm considering using a shotgun instead of my 45-70 for a bush carry gun but at the price of most slugs it's expensive to get the practice I need to stay proficient with it

I do like heavier that 1 oz for my bush shottie though. 1 1/8 oz slugs moving along at a decent speed have a definite impact on the receiving end. I just don't care for the low recoil stuff as it doesn't land the rounds nearly as hard. They are visibly less powerful when you watch the target/animal being hit.

Absolutely. I bought and use these specifically for target practice and multi round range days.
