Called S.I.R today, told them I wanted to return my sks since it was rippin shells in half, the rep for the rifles was busy and since I was a work I could not wait , the woman answering the phone said she would have the guy leave me a message at home after explaining to him my situation. I get home and I have a message telling me the surplus rifles have no warranty, which is totally opposite of what I was told when I bought the rifle, they told me no problem returning it what so ever within 30 days. Looks like their so called customer service stops at the friendly voice answering the phone, and not on actually making the customer happy.

You need to talk to a real person. Worst case, just call the CFC to tell them you're returning it and send it back express with tracking.

Your gettign a rifle that falls apart and rips shells in half is not legally part of being a consumer in Canada ;)

Hate to say it, but speaking to someone at the gun counter *may* not be of any better help. Their customer service seems to be a bit of hit and miss, but I have heard of them taking back bad SKS's before. Best of luck

This is what I would do: I would call them and tell them that you are interested in an SKS but would like to know what their warranty and return policy is on that.

I am assuming that they will tell you that returning a defective SKS is not a problem. You then tell them "Good, because I have this one I bought from you guys and it's defective. I'd like to return it.

What's he gonna say? No? Too late!

Yeah, try and get ahold of the gun counter. I had one of thier SKS's with the pinned barrel(serial was in the 0400### range) that experienced barrel separation. They took it back no problem. Worst case scenario, ask to speak to Frank, as I know he's the one that authorized my return. But above all, be nice to them! I know from experience that being irate doesn't get you what you want.Good luck!

just noticed your other post about the SKS ripping brass. Have you fired it with surplus ammo yet? I've heard more than a few instances of SKS not digesting commercial brass ammo very well. Give'er a whirl with some cheap czech or Hungarian surplus and see how it runs. Also, take an oversize bore brush, put it in an electric drill, and give that chamber a goooooooood scrubbin. Built up cosmo can wreak all kinds of havoc in the chamber.

Well I tried to polish it using steel wool and oil on a wooden dowel using a drill like PP suggested, though it still has a rusty color in some spots, and also used the brush I use on my 308, but not on a drill because I was not sure how much abuse the chamber could be given. As for trying surplus ammo, well I do not have any, and I really bought the rifle to hunt deer with on a deer drive, in the thick woods, so if it does not shoot commercial ammo, and SIR does not take it back, ya might find it up for sale on the EE. then with all the head space talk, I looked up more on the headspace issue on the net, and scared myself reading how in some circumstances it could be dangerous to fire it, lol so I am a little app:confused: rehensive on shooting it again.

I use a .45 cal bore brush for the chamber, and really work it around in there. Use lots of solvent too. I noticed that you want to hunt so this is not the answer but I second the idea of using milsurp ball to see if that is the problem. The way the sks ejects cases, one can see that it is very violent. Try the milsurp and report back. If that's not it I would guess that the chamber diameter is too large causing the fired case to expand and get stuck or a burr or ridge acting on the casing. A headspace problem that I had, only caused a lot of failure to fire as the firing pin then had to travel past its designed length and would not strike the primer with enough force to launch. (PS don't change to the lighter hammer spring if you are going to use milsurp!) Good luck

I would try and find someone else that has a chicom SKS and try your ammo in his. Did you take it out of the wood to check if the barrel is moving forward?

I really hope they do take it back, because it would be crappy to lose an eye (or worse:eek: ) from a KBed 150$ rifle...

I could send you a stripper with czech ammo if you want, since you are in MTL and I am in Sherbrooke....what are the rules for shipping ammo?

Hehe, good thinking...I've done similar more than once.

Hey HB. Sorry to hear that you're having the problems with the gun. Do talk to Frank at the gun counter though. SIR has always been really good to me. If the gun is defective they should really take it back. It's not like a consignment sale. This is a product they brought in...

Who's gonna buy this gun ? how would you advertise it......"As new, but I'm scared to shoot it cause it might disfigure me"

If SIR won't help you out, you are probably stuck with it....

LOL I'd sell it as P.O.S for sale, looking for new owner, preferably blind as it might bow up in yer face, and charge only the shipping.

I'm, going to try the oversize bore brush thingy, then try it this week end using same ammo(maybe using a face shield) and if it still sucks, I will try everything I got to get S.I.R to take it back. TY for the offer of sending me ammo, especially since around her you cannot find a thing, and I might take you up on it if S.I.R lets me down.

If it is ripping the ammo in half that means it has excessive headspace. Do not fire the rifle anymore with any ammo. You could end up losing your face.

But the first 5 shots i put through it worked fine, if it had excessive headspace, wouldn't the first shot I took ripped in half?????

First off, I am not an expert, not even close.

Looking at the result

I wonder if head space is an issue here. I wonder if the action is not staying (or being) locked for the required time. If the action was not locking you would end up with a blowback action. You would have extraction before the pressure has dropped down to a safe level. If this were the situation then the back end of the case would be unsupported as it were extracted. The pressure would blow apart the weak exposed case.

Just a thought.
