S & j ar-15 barrel quality, any feedback?

Fit and finish is nice on my 11.5". I suspect that it is over gassed - I would have to pull the gas block and remeasure the port though to tell you what it is though. I run an h2 buffer and could likely run an h3 without issue.

Only one of my 5 bolts would headspace with it as well - could be the bolts or could be a tight chamber (or combination of the two).

Overall though it runs and the finish is nice. I only have 1500 rounds on it though, so no comments on long term durability.

My next barrel? Likely be a Daniel defense or something to ensure the gas port is in spec (and I want a 14.5" middy, and I don't think s and j makes those).

I would probably buy it again, but I would also see what else is available for comparable cost.

I agree that the fit and finish is great, I just got my 11.5. No rounds yet as I need a BCG. Everything installed correctly and very tight but not needed to be forced into place. I'll be using it for 22LR as well and will do a review if theres interest when I've got 1K+ 223 though it (MFS and Norc waiting).

I've bought from S&J before and it's always been quality (Soft plates and Rem 870 20ga parts)

I've got something like 2000 rounds thru my 11.5" so far.
Worked proper with all my bolts. Not sure about overgassed, I run a 6oz buffer.

Mine was a refurb I bought off them for cheap. They used to have problems with the extension coming loose. Mine appears to have been a repaired barrel as the gas port is slightly off centre, The gas gets thru' just fine, and the rifle runs 100% for the most part.

As of this morning the CNC is turning barrels, the ext issue was along time ago a very short run of products, but there were a few still out there.
The controlled gas nitride finish we use is the best on the market today, not the same thing as being used by others, salt bath nitride or plasma nitride.
Our system is way advanced then what is being used by most.

I have an 11.5 as well (belonged to DILIGAF) and it's ~2600 rounds fired. Haven't had a single issue with it yet.

We have 386 11.5 and 14.5 inch. Bbls turned just waiting for a time slot to chamber them all
Most are going over seas but we should have a bunch for our canadian customers
Should be able to offer a package deal with low pro cas block, flash hide and gas tube
Looking at close to the end of the month before we have then finished

I have had 3 2x11.5" and a 14.5" both with well over 2500rds each. I had an issue with my second 11.5" (barrel extension came loose) but S&J rectified it ASAP and i am pleased with them 100% with out flinching id continue to buy their barrels in fact i have 3 more builds in progress and all will be donning S&J barrels

I have one here and the port measures .093" which is pretty big for a 223 barrel.

This is potentially quite dangerous. This should be investigated further.[/QUOTE]

Any possibility of a middy 14.5"?

I also recall my gas port measuring around 0.093" as well, and I thought colts were in the 0.06X's (from my reading online). It cycles pretty hard even with an h2. I will be looking for some extra power buffer springs.

I wasn't all that confident that the tight headspace was an issue due to the origin of my spare bolts. The one that did headspace came from a different manufacturer than the other 4, so I suspect those ones are just slightly on the tight end of things. After I finished my crate of ammo up I detail cleaned the rifle and it seems to have worn in a bit - 4 of the 5 bolts are gtg now.

in short there has been a lot of changes to our product this year, one of the reasons it has taken us along time to finish this next batch, we wanted to make sure that there were the best we could offer, that and we have been very, very busy with other projects.

Would it be possible to get a mid length 14.5" made? I'd rather buy from a Canadian company.
