S & j ar-15 barrel quality, any feedback?

Would it be possible to get a mid length 14.5" made? I'd rather buy from a Canadian company.

Ben
sorry not at this time, we will be doing mid on the next run which will be close to the end of the year or early next year, as we still have lots of bbls in stock

any other caliber offerings aside from 5.56?
we were all set up to do 300,blkout but we passed on that project for now as we had 10 Daniel defence bbls listed on our website since may and only sold 2 of them.
This is likely due to the lack of ammo, and its not going to get any better in 2013, not eveyones wants to reload.
Im still waiting on our pallet of 300 blkout ammo. its been 9 months from one of canadas majors importers.

I have an 11.5" and it's running perfectly with Norc yellow box ammo as well as AE .223 Ammo Can from Cambodian Tire. I'm using a RRA upper receiver, NEA 9" quad rail from Ryan at SFRC and life is sweet.

That S&J barrel is shooting better than I can hold it, especially at CQB distances of 25m and 35m. Now I have to break it out to the 100m range next.

Cheers and keep helping the newbies around here!

Barney

I have a 16.5 with 1:7 twist and it runs perfectly with a Daniel Defense BCG. Rifle feels a little overgassed but it's been 100% so far. Haven't done much for accuracy testing but will the next time I'm at the range.

What exactly is "over-gassed" and is it a bad thing?

Too large of a gas port allowing more gas pressure than is required to cycle the action to enter the BCG. This causes the BCG to cycle faster than normal and when it hits the end of travel in the buffer tube it bottoms out harder. You feel it when shooting as it's not as smooth as a properly gassed rifle. A heavier buffer and spring should help bring it back into balance but it would be better if the gas port was in spec and we didn't need to worry about it. I'm not complaining though, I'm happy with my franken-AR and will see what the barrel can do for accuracy next trip to the range now that I exchanged the red dot for a 1-4x24.
Is it bad? I don't know, I would think it may cause a slight increase in wear on the internal parts of the rifle and it isn't as comfortable to shoot but I don't think it is significant enough to worry about too much.
