S&J Barrel Issue?

I bought a used S&J barrel on the EE. It's supposed to be an 11.5" but it actually measures out at between 12.25-12.3". This isn't normal is it?

Edit. I measured from the bolt face to the end of the muzzle with a rod.

S&J measures there barrels from muzzle to the extension rather than the bolt face for some unknown reason.
I had a thread asking this exact question some time ago.
It is not typical but should not make a substantial difference in the overall appearance or operation of your rifle.
I don't know about newer S&J barrels but older ones had issues with being overgassed as well as barrels coming loose from the barrel extension.

If you read my post it mentions a Green mountain barrel. This was an error that wolverine corrected. They actually sent me a S&J barrel

Well that answers the question. Why on earth would they measure different than every other manufacturer?

Are you measuring to the end of the barrel extension? Put a bolt into the chamber so it locks up. Slide a dowel into the barrel until it hits the bolt face. Mark the dowel by the end of the barrel. Measure the length.

Edit: Just read Chrisco's comment. Guess S&J is different.

The 11.5's from S&J are longer than ALL other manufacturers. BCM, Stag, DD, they are 11.5. S&J's are 12-12.5/

So if ya want a 11.5" ya gotta buy a 10.5" S&J barrel. Gotcha.
