Just installed my s&k mount for my #4. Was not to impressed the nut that is supplied with it, a wedge shape, however the location where it is suppose to wedge in on my rifle is straight and unable to properly sit.

This resulted it the mount popping up. Had to throw a shim in it to keep it which works for now.

Got a beartooth combraising kit, that didn't live up to my expectations either.

I want to get one for my #3 however would not go with S&K because it would require a little stock inlet I hear.

The ATI mount (instructions viewed on youtube) looks simple however the front set screw is confusing. Anyone know how is secures into the frame?

There are 2 set screws in the front of the ATI mount, one is angled. IIRC the angled one goes in first followed by the other, its a pretty solid mount.

I have 2 S&K mounts that I've used since 1975 on many No.4s & No.5s. Sometimes it takes a minute to orientate the nut correctly during installation but it's been a reliable solid mount. I get consistent groups with reloaded ammo from half inch to one inch depending on the rifle.

I've got both the ATI and the S&K.

My ATI's (had about three) are good, but my one S&K mounted rifle is just rock solid.

Given the choice, I'd go S&K in the future.

Sorry to hear about yours not being all you expected...

OP...did you try flipping the wedge around the other way?

If you have it in there right, they are an awesome mount.

Unless you can see evidence of milling or filing in the stripper clip guide, you probably have it in wrong.

I just picked up an S&K in brand new condition....I have a milling machine and intend to burn off a few in steel...anyone interested in a copy once I get going?

Before we go calling it "nice" and good quality, I'm gonna say up front, this is the run for mistakes.

I've got 10 of these that I'm putting together in the first run. All on a manual mill. By a guy who never finished his apprentice machinist course. 20 years ago. Bear that in mind, and I'll see how my QC checks go on these....

The first run will probably be done by the end of the month. (I may parkerize them instead of blueing them.)

I picked up some 6" blanks (note, mine is 4.5", a bit longer than the S&K already) so the next run might have a 6" rail.

I haven't done the wedges up yet, but I think I have the stock onhand to make them.

More to follow.
